Markus “Notch” Persson, a Swedish programmer, was the original creator of Minecraft, but was later developed and published by popular and creative game developer, Mojang.
The in-game building and creative aspect of Minecraft allow players to create constructions out of cubes which are textured, within a 3d generated environment.
Other game activities involve resource gathering, exploration, combat and crafting.
There are many different game play modes on offer, which includes
– Survival mode, in which the players must gather resources to maintain health and build their world.
– Creative mode, in which players are equipped with unlimited resources to construct with, along with the ability to fly, which is awesome!
– Adventure mode allows players to visit and explore customized maps created by other players.
– And lastly, a spectator mode where players can clip through blocks and fly all around, although cannot destroy or place any blocks.
Regarding the PC version of the game, it is well renowned for the 3rd party modification, which offers additional worlds, quests, characters and items.
Minecraft has received a ton of awards including the Innovation Award, Best Debut Game Award, Best Downloadable Game Award, the Seumas McNally Grand Prize, the Audience Award along with many others.
With 40 million unique players per month across all platforms and 106 million copies sold, makes Minecraft the 2nd best-selling video game of all time and the best-selling PC game to date.
Microsoft purchased the Minecraft intellectual property and Mojang in November 2014, for an estimated $2.5 billion, now that’s a lot of cheddar my friends!
